Join us 45 minutes on Wednesday 16 July at 2pm at the Castlemilk Hall for a demonstration of the traditional stoneworking skills being used to restore the hall.

The Castlemilk Hall Repair and Restoration project is a step closer now that the scaffolding, roof, stonework and window replacement has started at Waterside Road, Carmunnock. The hall was built of Giffnock sandstone which is a fine to medium grained buff stone described as a ‘freestone’ because of its textural uniformity and as such is often seen as dressings and carved detail on buildings. Quarrying finished at the end of the 19th Century.

The project, which has been promoted with a 50% grant from Glasgow City Heritage Trust (GCHT) has attracted match funds from organisations associated with the Scottish Landfill Communities Fund. An additional contribution for the windows was donated by the Carmunnock Horticultural Society.
